MANTA CACIQUE
Símbolo de privilegio y autoridad, la manta cacique se usa para ceremonias y rituales mapuche. La manta cacique es un atuendo tradicional mapuche usado por el jefe máximo o cacique, para rituales tipo guillatunes o ceremonias relevantes como matrimonios. Se elabora en lana de oveja, con un hilado muy fino y diseños que tienen relación con la persona que la va a usar. El motivo más tradicional se parece a una estrella, que se repite como greca a través de la técnica de teñido por reserva. Si el dueño es una autoridad de mayor importancia, por ejemplo, un cacique de varias comunidades, el dibujo será más complejo.
Hay mantas negras con figuras en blanco y rojas también con figuras en blanco. La manta negra está reservada para la gente de más edad e influyente y la roja para los jóvenes.

The chief’s manta is used at Mapuche ceremonies and rituals and is a symbol of rank and privilege. The cacique’s manta is a traditional Mapuche garment the chief or cacique wears at marriage, rain-making or other key ceremonies. The manta is made of finely spun sheep’s wool to a design that reflects the person who will wear it. The most traditional motif is star-like and is repeated as a border using tie-dying. The more powerful the owner, for instance for a chief of several communities, the more complex the designs become.
Mantas are made in black with figures in white and in red with white. Black is reserved for elder and more influential statesmen, while the young wear red mantas.
