FIGURAS DE CRIN
La pequeña aldea de Rari se encuentra en el interior de la Cordillera de los Andes, a la altura de Linares. Sus habitantes viven en un valle prodigioso, cruzado por el río Cauquenes, decorado con parras de vino y extensos campos sembrados. Se trata de las mujeres tejedoras de Rari, las que unidas por su tradición familiar y comunitaria han creado una original artesanía en base al tejido utilizando cabellos de caballos y vacas -el crin- y un hilo vegetal sacado del ixtle que da firmeza a las figuras. La elaboración se hizo más compleja con el tiempo, surgieron brujas, mariposas, guitarreras, flores y centenas de diferentes figuras las que combinan colores con la transparencia propia de la fibra.

HORSE-MANE FIGURES
Set in the shadow of the Andes the small village of Rari is located near the town of Linares. Sliced through by the Cauquenes River, the village folk’s prodigious valley is a veritable quilt of vineyards and cereal crops. Yet it is the weavers of Rari that set this place apart. With knowledge passed down through the female line of families, communities craft figures threading hair from the manes of horses and cattle around a stiffer vegetal fiber taken from the ixtle plant. Over the ages more complex figures have been made combining beautiful colors with the transparency of the fiber; witches, butterflies, guitar-playing women, flowers, and a myriad of other forms have all emerged from these women’s deft hands.
